When we’ve moved, it has been long and exhausting. Some moves have been easier than others, but the frustration and difficulties always existed. I don’t know about you, but when we downsized to a smaller place, we needed help!
So, we put into place some tips and tricks and made the decision to finally get a place to store our extra items. I’m here to say that it was the best decision we ever made!
7 Tips to make your move to Yuba City smoother than ever!
Make a list.
It may sound like a no brainer, but making a list early on will help you stay organized. Make a list of things to do for your new place, what rooms need to be packed, and what needs to be done on or after moving day (like scheduling for bulk trash pick-up).
Start packing early.
You are going to be tempted to wait to start packing until a week or so before you move. Don’t do it! Start packing earlier.
You know that list you made? Go through it and plan to pack up to two rooms a week. Some rooms with a lot more items may need to be done over a week all alone. So, if you have 6 rooms to pack and you know it will take a full week to pack your master bedroom, plan to allow 4 weeks for packing.
Sort as you pack.
This is why we started packing early. As a family we sort as we pack. Each item either goes into a trash bag, a box to be donated, a bin to go to storage, or a box or bin to be moved.
Be sure to have your boxes and bins labeled properly. You will also want to be sure that you have a separate space to put these boxes and bins as they fill-up. This will help a lot when it comes time to move everything.
Label everything very clearly.
As you can see, if nothing is labeled, no one will know where it goes. Be tedious about labeling everything! This will help ensure that everything gets moved to the right place whether that’s the trash, storage, new place, or donation center.
Find your crew when moving to Yuba City.
Whether you are looking to hire movers or have friends and family help, you will want to get your crew aligned early on. We found it best to start this process a few weeks before the move to make sure we had enough help.

Finding a self storage unit is a game changer. There is enough stress while moving. Not having to stress about getting rid of items we wanted to keep was a big relief. Whether it was a table we didn’t have space for or our holiday decorations, we didn’t want to get rid of certain things.

Last, but certainly not least, the hardest part about moving is the cleaning that has to be done in a rental after you move. I have learned that the money we spend paying someone to do this cleaning for us has been worth it every time!
