Size Guide

Whether you are storing personal items or business assets, we are frequently asked how much space you’ll need. Too much space, and you’ll end up paying more than you need to. Too little, and you’ll have to unpack the unit and move everything to a larger one, or rent a second unit.

Our on-site managers are experts at helping you figure out how much space you’ll need. Give them a call and they’ll walk you through the decision. Come visit any of our locations where our friendly managers will be happy to show you the various spaces so that you can see for yourself how much space you’ll need.

Parking/Covered Parking

Parking spaces and covered vehicle storage for your car, boat, or RV can keep your ride from consuming valuable space in your garage, all while shielding it from the elements—like sunshine, rain, or hail. Some of our covered parking units even include electricity, too. Find and contact a self storage facility near you for location-specific car storage availability.

To get started, here are some guides to help you determine the space you’ll need for residential or business self storage.

RESIDENTIAL SELF-STORAGE

The Shield Storage family of facilities has units for moves of all sizes.* This convenient guide will help you determine what size unit to rent based on the space you are moving your things out of — including visuals of how you might organize the square footage based on a typical set of furniture.

BUSINESS SELF-STORAGE

Currently, businesses are required to keep records for up to seven years. That really adds up! (We know because we follow the same rules.) If you are looking to store some of those files you wish you didn’t need, self storage may be a cost-effective solution — especially if you follow this guide to get the right space for the file storage you need. (Note: If you would like to set up shelving in your unit to make your files more accessible you are welcome to do so as long as the shelving is free-standing and not attached to walls, ceiling, or the floor of the storage space.)

*All unit sizes listed may not be available at all facilities. For specific details or help choosing the right space, please contact the specific facility manager. To reach a manager by phone, you can find the number on that location’s page. A list of locations can be found here. If you want to email one or more locations you can do that from our contact us page.
