This half-day trip is full of exhilarating experiences as you raft down 6 miles of the American River. Paddle your way through Satan’s Cesspool and Hospital Bar before ending your trip at Folsom Lake. The trip is guided by a professional tour guide and is safe for riders of all skill levels.

  1. Take the Family to the California State Railroad Museum.

Perfect for the entire family, the California State Railroad Museum is home to a 150 –year-old, 40-ton monument that tells the story of the innovation and history of the California Railroad.   1. Go visit the Spirit of Sacramento.

This boat has been around since the early 1940s and has plenty of stories to share. From being a snagboat for the Army to being owned by John Wayne, the Spirit of Sacramento is a sight to behold. Today, you can view the boat from the road since it sits on private property so be sure to be aware of the traffic.

 

  1. Spend a weekend at the HI Sacramento Hostel.

Many places you visit boast of the hotels and resorts in the area. Sacramento has one of the best hostels in the country at the HI Sacramento. With co-ed or gender specific rooms, you can stay and enjoy the city around you. The hostel provides free breakfast, activities for guests and is located near the State Capital and Old Sacramento for your exploration.

  1. Enjoy a walk along the River Parkway Trail with you family or friends.

This 9.5 mile trail, out and back, is heavily populated. The trail takes you along the river and is great for all skill levels, so bring the kids! You can also bring your dog along as well! The trail is paved and is also popular for bikers. Bring your water and enjoy the day in the sun!

This 3.5-acre park combines themed play areas from over 35 fairytales turning each into its own magical world. With real animals to beautiful gardens, there is truly something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Not only can you meet Peter Rabbit and the Three Little Pigs, but there are also theater performances that are put on in the Children’s Theater. Open year round, this is the perfect place to spend time with family this summer.

With over 400 species of wildlife to observe, the Sacramento Zoo is a great adventure for the whole family to enjoy. Look a giraffe eye to eye or take the Zoo Train up Big Cat Row. The zoo is over 14 acres and houses some of the best animal exhibits in the state.
